The Ritual Synopsis
Father Theophilus Riesinger (Al Pacino), who's dealing with a troubled past, and a younger priest, Father Joseph Steiger (Dan Stevens) who's questioning his faith after suffering a personal tragedy, must put aside their differences to save Emma Schmidt (Abigail Cowen), a young woman who shows signs of demonic possession in 1928 Iowa.
Father Joseph doesn't believe that anything demonic could have something to do with Emma's affliction, while Father Theophilus claims to know the Devil when he sees him. Bishop Edwards (Patrick Fabian) decides the two priests should both perform a difficult and dangerous series of exorcisms.
